TMORPG Book of Travels Preview - Pilgrim has no destination, only path

Book of Travels is a completely unique indie project that can give players looking for wanderings the experience of a meditative pilgrimage to a spacious world rich in fairy tales, wonders and secrets. A world where each inhabitant, when choosing a path, is guided by the dictates of the heart, and not by the usual MMORPG quest mechanics from a popular online games provider Friv2Online. Let's talk in more detail.

The Might and Delight team positions their TMORPG as a "classic style" project when they describe the basic principles of the player's interaction with the world of Book of Travels. And they mean, it seems to me, by no means old-school role-playing games with freedom of action, but old text-based RPGs, some of which safely exist to this day.

It is with text-based role-playing MMOs that one can draw a neat parallel when trying to briefly describe the features of Book of Travels. There are really a lot of texts here, fans of role-playing can even write their own, filling out numerous sections in the character profile, but Book of Travels also has a wonderfully drawn and interactive world through which your hero moves.

The camera looks at the hero from the side, which does not prevent the players from directing the feet of their protagonist in any available direction. Almost all landscape obstacles immediately disappear as soon as the character is out of sight. And only sometimes it does not work, but so far nothing critical has happened in this regard.

This is because Book of Travels is a very meditative and calm space game, in which players spend most of their time exploring the world and getting to know its inhabitants. You will listen to them and help them (if you want to help), find food and curiosities that can be exchanged for equipment useful on a journey, create something with your own hands or take up a sword. By the way, the fights in the game take place in a duel format, reminiscent, again, of the old text fights.

In this regard, the Might and Delight project will not limit you in anything, it will not help you at all. You are a free traveler who has just arrived on the Wicker Shore. What you are looking for on it, what stories await you, where you will go and how you will act - Book of Travels will let you decide for yourself.

Character creation will be the first step on your long journey. And here you will have to be guided not only by the characteristics, but also by the vision of your hero: what is his archetype, which of the four winds is he associated with, where did he come from, in what conditions did he grow up and how was he brought up, what are the strengths and weaknesses of his personality. Mine, for example, has a highly developed empathy, but he is a sleepyhead, so after resting and for some time after entering the game, the hero cannot run.

All this will affect the nature of the wagering, and at the same time determine the starting characteristics of the character. There are four of them in Book of Travels: sociality, spirituality, physical strength and knowledge of mechanisms. Raising the level of the hero, you will receive attribute points that you can distribute between them.

In the process of wandering, you will often come across objects, for successful interaction with which you will need a certain number of points in one or another characteristic. But, again, if you can't move a boulder or fix a device, nothing critical will happen - you just move on. Where your skills can really come in handy.

The traveler constantly receives cards of various effects. Some affect vitality and stamina, which will have to be restored near fires and shelters, others improve or reduce characteristics, and others enhance or weaken the combat qualities of the wanderer.

The inventory here is extremely clear - several slots for different items of clothing, tools and weapons. A backpack and pockets will come in handy for carrying all sorts of items and food needed to restore energy.

Crafts, exchange, gathering - in the Book of Travels you can find a bunch of activities to your liking, play a wandering healer or wizard, warrior or merchant. Depending on the time of day and days of the week, different events will take place in the game and different characters will meet, and only other players in the vast Wicker Shore can be met infrequently, because each of them has their own road, and it’s far from a fact that you don’t care at all. way.

Book of Travels captivates with music, pictures and spaces that you can contemplate at your own, if desired, unhurried rhythm. And only the language barrier can interfere with our pilgrims, since the texts here are far from the simplest.

One way or another, the work of Might and Delight deserves the close attention of fans of MMORPGs and beautiful stories, who want not so much a challenge as an exciting and unusual experience from traveling through an unknown and picturesque fairy-tale world.
